No. 16 WBB Holds off Pacific, 81-78

Yvonne Ejim recorded her fourth double double of the season

STOCKTON, Calif. — Yvonne Ejim had 22 points and 12 rebounds, McKayla Williams added 19 points and seven boards as No. 16 Gonzaga held off Pacific 81-78 on Thursday.

Gonzaga led for 39 minutes, 18 seconds, with an advantage as high as 16 points. But Pacific scored 30 points in the fourth quarter to make it close down the stretch.
 
Kaylynne Truong finished with 14 points, six rebounds and seven assists for Gonzaga (18-2, 8-0 West Coast Conference), which has won 13 in a row against the Tigers. Eliza Hollingsworth scored 11 points as four Zags scored in double figures.
 
Gonzaga scored the opening 12 points of the game, with seven points from Williams. Pacific missed its first five shots, four from 3-point range, and turned it over three times, but rallied to get within 20-17 entering the second quarter. Gonzaga led 45-31 at halftime.
 
Anaya James completed a three-point play with 5:30 left to get Pacific within 70-69 and she gave the Tigers their first lead at 74-73 on a 3-pointer from the corner.

The Zags responded with Ejim grabbing an offensive rebound and making a layup to take the lead back, which the Bulldogs never gave up again. 

James made a runner with 36.5 seconds left to cut Gonzaga's lead to 79-78. She had another shot within the last seconds, but the Zags held her off before Truong secured the loose ball under the basket and made two free throws with 0.5 seconds left.

Overall, Gonzaga shot 43.5 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond the arc. The Zags also came in clutch at the free throw line, going 19-for-21. Pacific shot 58.3 percent from the floor and committed 14 turnovers. The Bulldogs also outrebounded the Tigers, 35-28.
 
Records: The Bulldogs won its 11-straight game and stays perfect in the West Coast Conference at 8-0. Pacific falls to 7-12 and 2-6 in the WCC.
 
Brynna Maxwell scored a three-pointer today to extend her streak to all 20 games this season.
 
McKayla Williams had a career-high 19 points and was just shy of grabbing a career-high rebounds with seven.
 
Yvonne Ejim recorded her fourth double double of the year with a team-high 20 points and 12 rebounds. This is also the sixth game this season she has scored at least 20 points.
