MOSCOW, Idaho — Gonzaga Women's Track & Field wrapped up competition at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open in the Kibbie Dome on Saturday, coming away with a school record from Kristen Garcia in the 3,000m and four other runners putting down times that rank among the Top 10 in program history to go with six Top-10 finishes between the 800m and 3,000m.
Finishing third overall in the 800m with a time of 2:16.27, Anna Lanigan ran the fourth-fastest indoor 800m race in program history as a true freshman to lead a pack of 10 GU runners along with eighth-place finisher Alyssa Bienfang (2:17.98). Caramia Mestler (ninth, 2:18.30) also entered the record book with the seventh-fastest time in history to make it three Zags in the event's Top 10. They were follow by Elizabeth Brands (12, 2:20.28), Kate Donaldson (14th, 2:20.57), Brittney Hansen (20th, 2:21.95), Emma Larson (27th, 2:26.66), Karina Smith (28th, 2:26.80), Taylor Biondi (34th, 2:33.91) and Sophia Atin (37th, 2:38.02).
Kristen Garcia broke the program record in the 3,000m, finishing in 9:30.61 to take her second event win in as many meets after winning the Mile at the Spokane Indoor Challenge last Saturday. On the outdoor oval, Garcia holds both the 5,000m and 10,000m records and ranks third all-time in the 1,500m. Behind her, Rosina Machu (fifth, 9:53.48) and Anna Grabowski (sixth, 9:55.17) both cracked the Top 10, with Makenna Edwards (14th, 10:22.66), Jasmine Nguyen (18th, 10:39.63), Jorun Downing (21st, 10:48.69) and Ava Knap (22nd, 10:50.49) following her. Machu's time ranked as the seventh-fastest in program history, with Grabowski's ranking ninth.
Alexis Knight (15th, 8.36s) and Grace Dalton (22nd, 8.68s) opened things up for the Zags in the 60m qualifiers.
