PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Gonzaga woman's tennis team had a competitive match against Washington State University earlier this afternoon. Today's matchup marks the fifteenth meeting between Gonzaga and Washington State, six of which have occurred since the 2019 spring season.
Today's matchup opened with a competitive doubles competition. In the No.3 spot, Washington State's Yura Nakagawa and Fifa Kumhom defeated Gonzaga's Kianna Oda and Rose Hayes by a score of 6-4. On court two, Gonzaga's Tiegan Aitken and Jenna Sloan earned a 7-5 victory over Washington State's Yang Less and Elyse Tse. In the final doubles match, Gonzaga clinched the doubles point when Cate Broerman and Adrianna Sosnowska picked up a 7-6 victory against Washington State's Maxine Murphy and Eva Alvarez Sande on court one.
Moving to the singles competition, Washington State earned their first team point when Tse clinched a 6-0, 6-0 court four win over Oda. Shortly after, Nakagawa clinched a 6-3, 6-3 court three victory against Sloan. In the No. 2 spot, Sosnowska battled, but dropped a close match against Sande by a score of 7-5, 7-6.
Gonzaga continued to battle in the final three singles matches of the day. On court five, Washington State clinched the team victory when Fifa Kumhom picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win against Aitken. Gonzaga picked up their second team point when Broerman defeated Murphy 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 in gritty fashion. In the final singles match of the day, Hayes shined, defeating Washington State's Stefania Mikhailova 6-4, 6-2 on court six.

Following today's match, the Gonzaga women's tennis team will continue their season when they face Nebraska on February 4th at noon. The Zags will return to the Stevens Center on February 11th, when they face the University of Colorado at 9 a.m.
