SEATTLE, Wash. — Gonzaga Men's Track concluded competition at the UW Invitational at Dempsey Indoor on Saturday, highlighted by a pair of No. 2 all-time performances in the 3,000m and Mile by Wil Smith and Yacine Guermali, respectively.
11 GU runners put down personal records in the Open 3000m to open things up, with Cooper Laird (8:15.77) finishing fourth in his heat to lead the pack with a 34th-place finish overall. Riley Moore (8:16.70) followed that up with a 37th-place finish, ahead of Nicky DiMartino (8:20:00), Aidan Baughan (8:20.14), Bryce Cerkowniak (8:21.66), Paul Talens (8:24.25), Jeremiah Mackie (8:24.61), Mason Kissell (8:26.26), Ansel Tucker (8:27.90), Jackson Lyne (8:32.92), Will Thorsett (8:34.67) and Carp Mukai (8:39.21). Talens, Kissell and Mackie all PR'd by more than 15 seconds each.
Guermali, the Zags' outdoor record holder in the 1500m, put down a personal-best 4:02.04 in the mile to move up to No. 2 on the all-time list and place 13th overall — the fastest indoor mile run by a Zag since 2015.
Smith PR'd by nearly 12 seconds to finish in 7:55.98 and place third overall in the 3K and first among collegiate runners, throwing down the second-fastest indoor 3,000m race in program history — second to only James Mwaura's 7:54.50 finish at last year's UW Invite. Smith's time now ranks No. 36 in Division I.
