FORT WORTH, Texas – The Gonzaga men's tennis team concluded their participation in the ITA Kick-Off earlier today, as they defeated the University of Utah by a score of 4-1. This is the second time in team history that the Zags have faced Utah, with the first meeting occurring last season.
 
In the singles competition, Gonzaga rebounded with two dominant victories. On court one, Gonzaga's Matthew Hollingworth and Sasha Trkulja earned an impressive 6-4 victory over Utah's #5 Berk Bugarik and Tatrik Trhac. In similar fashion, Gonzaga's Tom Hann and Pablo Gomez Galvan defeated Utah's Francisco Bastias and Bruno Caula 6-4 on court three. After Gonzaga clinched the doubles point, the court three match between Gonzaga's Arthus Bassetiere and Leon Roider and Utah's Geronimo Busleiman and Franco Capalbo went unfinished, ending with a score of 5-3.
 
Moving to the singles competition, Gonzaga earned victories in three of the four completed matches. On court four, Hollingworth defeated Trhac by a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Shortly after, Trkulja earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over #28 Busleiman on court one. Utah picked up their only team point of the day when Capalbo defeated Bassetiere 7-6, 6-2 on court two.
 
Gonzaga clinched the team victory when Oliver Andersson earned a 6-4, 7-6 court three victory over Bastias. Having clinched the 4-1 team victory, all other singles matches for the Zags went unfinished.
 
Up next: After today's victory, the Zags will return to the Stevens Center for their next match, as they face the University of Idaho on February 4th at 2 p.m. This match will open a two-match home stretch, with their next away match scheduled for February 24 at the University of California—Los Angeles.

Records: The season record for the Gonzaga men's tennis team improves to 3-2 with today's victory. For Utah, their season record falls to 2-2 with the loss. Today's victory also moves the historical record between the Gonzaga and Utah to 1-1.
