SPOKANE, Wash. – Earlier this afternoon, the Gonzaga men's tennis team faced the University of Idaho in the Stevens Center and won 6-1. Today's match also marked the 25th matchup against Idaho in program history.
Today's match opened with a very competitive doubles competition. In the No. 3 spot, Gonzaga's Tom Hann and Pablo Gomez Galvan defeated Idaho's Bruno Casino and Alejandro Salvador by a score of 6-2. Gonzaga clinched the doubles point when Leon Roider and Arthus Bassetiere clinched a 6-4 victory over Idaho's Taiyo Kurata and Francisco Gay.
On court one, Gonzaga's Matthew Hollingworth and Sasha Trkulja, who are the reigning WCC Players of the Week, were winning their match against Idaho's Matteo Masala and Francisco Bascon until it went unfinished, ending with a score of 5-4.
Moving to the singles competition, Gonzaga built on their excellent start with a dominant showing. On court three, Andersson earned Gonzaga another team point when he clinched a 6-2, 6-2 win over Masala. Shortly after, Gonzaga's Pablo Gomez Galvan defeated Idaho's Vivek Ramesh by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Gonzaga clinched the team victory when Hollingworth earned a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Kurata.
Idaho earned their first, and only, team point of the day when Bascon defeated Trkulja 6-4, 6-7, 10-5 on court one. In the No. 5 spot, Roider earned a back-and-forth victory over Casino, winning by a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. In the final singles match of the day for the Zags, Bassetiere battled, winning his court two match against Gay 7-5, 4-6, 10-5.
Up next: The Gonzaga men's tennis team will continue their season on February 19, when they face the University of Montana at 11 a.m. at home. After the Zags' matchup against Montana, the Gonzaga men's tennis team will have a five-match road trip, returning to the Stevens Center on March 24th to open up WCC competition against BYU.

Records: With today's win. the season record for the Gonzaga men's tennis team improves to 4-2. For Idaho, their record on the year drops to 1-1 with the loss. Overall, today's victory also moves Gonzaga's historical record against Idaho to 13-12.
