No. 20 WBB Hosts San Francisco This Thursday

The Zags are currently 4-0 in the WCC this year

THE TIPOFF
- The Gonzaga women's basketball continues West Coast Conference play this Thursday, Jan. 5, versus San Francisco. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. and it will be televised locally on SWX.
- GU is returning back home after going 2-0 on the road at Pepperdine and LMU last week. The Zags are most recently coming off a 96-51 win over LMU last Saturday. Yvonne Ejim scored 24 points, Brynna Maxwell added 22 and Gonzaga won its 30th-straight over Loyola Marymount. Kaylynne Truong added 18 points for the Bulldogs and McKayla Williams had 11.
- The Zags have four players currently averaging double digits in the first 16 games of the season, including Yvonne Ejim (16.6), Kaylynne Truong (16.1), Brynna Maxwell (14.9), and Eliza Hollingsworth (10.9). Ejim currently is third and Truong is sixth in the WCC in scoring. Maxwell also is ninth in the conference.
- The Bulldogs are currently shooting at a program record 79.8 percent from the free throw line, which also ranks sixth in the country and first in the West Coast Conference. Brynna Maxwell leads the team individually with 97.9 percent, which also leads the nation.
- Brynna Maxwell has made a three-pointer in every game so far this season. Maxwell is shooting 54 percent from the three-point line to rank first in the country. 
- As a team, the Bulldogs are shooting 41.8 percent from beyond the arc, which is currently ranked second in the nation and first in the WCC. 
- Gonzaga is currently on a seven-game winning streak.
- The Bulldogs were picked to win the West Coast Conference. The Zags received nine first-place votes that and totaled 81 points in the poll. The poll is voted on by the league's 10 head coaches, and coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team. Portland received one first-place votes and was selected to finish second with 71 points, while BYU was voted to finish third with 55 points.
- Gonzaga has amassed a conference record of 257-33 (.886) during the last 17 seasons, which includes 16 West Coast Conference regular-season titles and nine WCC Tournament championships.
- Seniors Kayleigh Truong, Kaylynne Truong and junior Yvonne Ejim were also named to the Preseason All-WCC Team. Ejim is the reigning WCC Sixth Woman of the Year while also receiving All-WCC Second Team in 2021-22. Kayleigh Truong earned All-WCC First Team honors after her performance in 2021-22.  Kaylynne Truong was named to the WCC Tournament team along with the Rainbow Wahine Showdown MVP as she was ranked third on the team in scoring last year.
- Last season, the Zags advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight year under Lisa Fortier.

THE SERIES
SERIES INFO: This will be the 78th matchup between the two programs and the Zags hold a 51-26 record over the Dons.     
STREAK: Gonzaga - 13    
FIRST MEETING: In 1988, the Zags won 57-36 at home.    
LAST MEETING: The Bulldogs went 3-0 against San Francisco last year. The most recent contest was at the WCC Tournament in the semi-finals game when Gonzaga won 69-55 in Las Vegas. 

SCOUTING THE DONS
- USF is currently 12-3 overall and 2-1 in the WCC. The Dons are coming off an 80-79 win at Santa Clara on Dec. 31. In other WCC games, USF defeated Pepperdine, 73-63, and fell to LMU, 68-59, in the WCC season opener. 
- San Francisco also played Long Beach State earlier this year like Gonzaga and won 74-50. 
- Ionna Krimili leads the Dons with 17.7 points and 3.1 rebounds a game. She averages a team-high 30.1 minutes and has a 38.7 shooting percentage from the three-point line as she is the leading scorer right now in the conference. 
- San Francisco has two other players averaging double figures, including Debora dos Santos with 12.7 and Jasmine Gayles with 11.6. Dos Santos currently ranks second in the WCC in field goal percentage with 57.5.
- USF leads the conference is points per game with 74.5, just ahead of Gonzaga's 74.3. The Dons also lead the WCC in rebounds per game with 43.8 and assists per game with 17.5.
