SPOKANE, Wash. — The Gonzaga men's rowing team opened up its fall season at the Head of the Spokane with top finishes against Washington State.
"I was really pleased with this group top to bottom," head coach
Dan Gehn said. "The Varsity 8 was spot on today."
The 1V8 boat finished first with a time of 15:30 over WSU by 17 seconds. The crew held the lead for the whole 5,000 meter race on the Spokane River.
In the same race, the 2V8 boat took third with a time of 15:53, which was over a minute faster than WSU's 2V8 crew.
In the novice eight race, the Bulldogs placed second with a 17:54 time, only two second behind the WSU novice boat.
During the second flight of races, the 1V4 'A' boat placed first over WSU by 23 seconds with a time of 17:22. In the 'B' boat, the Zags placed third with a finishing time of 17:39. The 'C' boat took fifth with a 17:59 time.
The final race of the day was the second round of varsity eights with the 3V8 crew placing first with a time of 16:24, over WSU's second-place finish of 17:53. The 2N8 boat took third with a time of 17:57 and placed ahead of WSU by over three minutes.
The Zags continue their fall schedule with the Head of the American next weekend, Oct. 28.
