STOCKTON, Calif. -- The Gonzaga men's soccer team scored early, but came up short at Pacific, 3-1.
Drew Pedersen scored for GUÂ (3-7-6, 1-3-1 WCC) in the ninth minute with an assist from
Chris Swider to give Gonzaga the early 1-0 lead. Pacific (5-6-4, 1-3-1 WCC) responded in the 22nd minute as Samuel Saiz Herraiz tied the game at 1-1 with an assist coming from Derick Roque.
The Tigers took the lead in the 32nd minute when a penalty kick was awarded to Derick Roque and he scored to make it 2-1. UOP extended its lead to 3-1 with another goal from Saiz Herraiz in the 35th minute as Jose Maria Barrera recorded the assist.
The Zags recorded three more shots in the first half from
Robbie Mora and
Nicholas Bianchi as the Tigers maintained their 3-1 lead.
Gonzaga kept the offensive pressure in the second half and outshot Pacific in the second half, 8-4, but weren't able to find the back of the net as Pacific held onto their 3-1 lead.
Overall, the Zags outshot the Tigers 13-12 and
Wessel Sprangers made three saves in net. Mora led the way with four shots with three of those on goal. Pedersen also took three shots on the night as Pacific made six total saves.
