KATY, Texas – The whole starting lineup for the Gonzaga Bulldogs scored in double figures as the team defeated Liberty, 102-59, in the first game of the Betty Chancellor Classic.
Kayleigh Truong scored a team-high and career-high 25 points after going 8-for-9 from the floor.
Eliza Hollingsworth also had a career-high 22 points as
Kaylynne Truong scored 17.
Brynna Maxwell recorded 11 points and
Yvonne Ejim scored 10 points.
Kayleigh Truong went off in the first quarter and scored 14 points as the Zags took a 28-11 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Flames 8-2 with Hollingsworth and Huijbens both grabbing two.
GU scored another 27 points in the second quarter to take the 55-31 lead going into halftime. Hollingsworth went 5-for-7 from the floor and added 13 points for Gonzaga. The Zags shot at 52.6 percent and held Liberty to 36.8 percent.
The Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run in the middle of the third quarter to maintain their significant lead. Gonzaga scored 35 points in the third quarter with Ejim scoring a team-high eight points. Maxwell and Hollingsworth were right behind her with six pints each. The Zags made eight three-pointers and shot at 61.5 percent from beyond the arc.
Gonzaga closed out the game with 12 more points to reach 100 points for the first time since 2016. The Zags also tied the school record of made three-pointers in a single game with 17. Hollingsworth and
Kaylynne Truong both scored four while
Kayleigh Truong scored a game-high five three-pointers.
Overall, Gonzaga shot at 53.1 percent and 51.5 from the three-point line. Defensively, Gonzaga held the Lady Fames to 36.2 percent and forced 12 turnovers. The Bulldogs also outrebounded Liberty, 37-23, with Ejim grabbing eight.
Kaylynne Truong dished out a team-high eight assists.
Records: The Zags tied the program record of 17 made three-pointers in the game. The last time the Bulldogs reached 17 was against BYU in 2017.
This is the first time GU has scored at least 100 points since 2016 when they scored 102 against UC Irvine.
Kayleigh Truong broke her career-high scoring points with 25.
Eliza Hollingsworth also had a career-high 22 points after going 7-for-13 from the floor.
