KATY, Texas – The Gonzaga Bulldogs closed out the Betty Chancellor Classic with a battle against No. 20 Louisville and came up short, 81-70.
Yvonne Ejim led the way with 23 points and seven rebounds. This marked her fourth game with at least 20 points so far this year. Brynna Maxwell scored four three-pointers and tallied 16 points on the day. Kaylynne Truong scored 11 and Kayleigh Truong recorded 10 to round out the double-digit scoring efforts from the Bulldogs.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle for the Zags. Kaylynne Truong led the team with 10 points as the team shot at 62.5 percent from the floor. The Bulldogs came out on top, 21-19, after 10 minutes of play and forced five turnovers for the Cardinals.
Louisville outscored Gonzaga 28-15 in the second quarter to take the 47-36 lead at halftime. Both Kaylynne Truong and Ejim had double figures in the first half with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
The Zags opened up the third quarter by outscoring Louisville 15-8. Maxwell led the charge with eight points and two rebounds for the Zags. At the end of the third, the Cardinals led 59-56 after Gonzaga outscored them 20-12.
With a three-point game going into the fourth, Louisville stretched its lead by scoring 22 points compared to GU's 14.
The Bulldogs shot an Impressive 55 percent from the field and won the rebound battle, 23-19. The Zags also forced 16 turnovers and scored 21 points off those miscues.
All-Tournament Team: Kayleigh Truong was named to the All-Tournament Team after scoring an average of 15.7 points per game in the tournament.
