PULLMAN, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's basketball battled against No. 24 Washington State with a buzzer beater by
Kaylynne Truong to send the game into overtime, but eventually fell 77-72 in extra time.
Kaylynne Truong led the team with 22 points with
Yvonne Ejim right behind her with 18 points.
Kayleigh Truong rounded out double figure scoring for the Zags with 13.
In the first quarter, Gonzaga went on an 8-0 run to take an early 12-4 lead. The Zags forced nine turnovers and led 19-13 at the end of the first. Ejim led the team with eight points in the first ten minutes as the team shot 58.3 percent.
The Cougs outscored GU in the second quarter, 12-7, but Gonzaga held on to the one-point lead going into halftime, 26-25.
Kaylynne Truong made the lone three-pointer of the quarter as
Eliza Hollingsworth grabbed a team-high four rebounds in the second frame.
At the half, Ejim led the team with 10 points and two rebounds with
Calli Stokes and Hollingsworth also grabbing four boards.
The Bulldogs scored 17 points in the third with
Brynna Maxwell and
Kayleigh Truong combining for 10 points. WSU shot at 57.1 percent and scored 21 points to take a slim 46-43 lead.
With 53.8 seconds left in the game,
Kaylynne Truong hit a dagger three to make it a one-point game.
Kayleigh Truong then drew a foul to take two free throws and took the lead at 62-61.
With six seconds left in regulation and down by three, GU in-bounded the ball and
Kaylynne Truong hit a three to tie the game 67-67 as time ran out.
In a back-and-forth overtime, WSU pulled away with two minutes left to take a three-point lead and secure the five-point win.
Overall, the game saw nine lead changes and was tied at 10 different times. The Zags forced 24 turnovers and scored 20 points off those.
