SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga track team competed for the first time at The Podium in Spokane on Saturday. A total of 17 PR times were recorded on the day, while
Ellie Armbruster headlined the lone new program record.
THE WOMEN
Alexis Knight and
Grace Dalton were the first GU runners to compete on the day, racing in the 60m dash. Knight earned a new PR of 8.11 in her heat, placing fourth and setting a new program second-best time. Dalton finished fifth in her heat with a time of 8.58.
The women's mile was next, as
Willow Collins ran in her Gonzaga track debut. Collins led all finishers with a 4:51.54 winning time, a mark that is fifth-best in program history.
Olivia Hobbs was right behind Collins with a 4:59.28 PR second place overall finish.
Anna Lanigan (Sixth overall, 5:08.40) and
Camille Broadbent (Tenth overall, 5:26.12) were the final two runners in the event.
Sophia Atin was the lone Zag in the women's 800m, as she picked up a PR time of 2:36.00.
Six Bulldogs competed in the 600m, led by a new program record 1:33.12 by
Ellie Armbruster. Her new time breaks the record she set two seasons ago by four seconds.
Bailee Carr (1:34.56) would have also broken that previous record if not for Armbruster's new time.
Emma Larson (1:39.66),
Ashlinn Aguayo (1:41.55),
Molly McGeoy (1:41.70), and
Karina Smith (1:42.89) wrapped up the finishing times.
Knight and Dalton returned to the track for the 200m, with Knight picking up her second PR of the day (27.16) while Dalton finished in 28.31).
The 3000m saw the largest group of Zag runners, as three athletes recorded new personal bests.
Kate Donaldson (9:57.04),
Jasmine Nguyen (10:12.97) and
Jorun Downing (10:25.00) all improved their previous bests, while
Brittney Hansen finished with the fastest GU time of 9:53.02.
THE MEN
In the men's mile,
Sam Geiger controlled the pace with his first of two PRs on the day. His 4:11.87 was the fastest time on the day, leading three other Zags to PRs (
Tommy O'Neil - 4:18.51,
Sean Janecko - 4:26.58, and
James Powers - 4:35.51).
Geiger, O'Neil, Janecko, and Powers returned to the surface for the 800m. Geiger posted his second PR of the day with a third place overall time of 1:54.71. O'Neil (Eighth, 2:05.59), Janecko (Ninth, 2:06.92), and Powers (Tenth, 2:08.36) rounded out the rest of the finishing times.
In the 3000m, four new PRs headlined the Zag men behind a
Michael Maiorano 8:14.97 first-place time.
Aidan Baughan (8:19.19),
Jacob Alfonso (8:19.77),
Mason Kissell (8:20.50), and
Paul Talens (8:21.81) each improved times to wrap up Gonzaga's day.
UP NEXT
The Zags are off until January for their first meet of 2024. They will be back at The Podium for the Spokane Sports Showcase and Spokane Indoor Challenge, which will run Jan. 12-13.
