SPOKANE, Wash. — Yvonne Ejim scored 25 points and
Kaylynne Truong hit four 3-pointers and added 14 points to help No. 20/19 Gonzaga beat Saint Mary's 65-51 Saturday. With the win, the Zags had a perfect 15-0 home record this season.
Ejim hit a jumper and Truong followed with a 3-pointer to make it 5-0 to open the quarter and the Bulldogs (25-3, 15-1 West Coast Conference) never trailed.
Brynna Maxwell was fouled as she hit a 3-pointer and made the and-1 free throw to cap a 10-2 run and give Gonzaga a 19-10 lead with 6:13 left in the second quarter. Maxwell, who finished with nine points on 2-of-9 shooting, has made at least one 3-pointer in each game this season.
Saint Mary's (12-16, 6-11 WCC) made a layup to open the third quarter and trim the Gaels' deficit to 27-22. Ejim answered with a pair of free throws and then hit a 3-pointer to spark a 13-2 run that culminated when Truong made back-to-back threes that gave Gonzaga a 16-point lead midway through the third period.
The Zags outscored the Gaels 20-17 in the final quarter to claim the 65-51 win.
Payton Muma and
McKayla Williams both scored five points in the last 10 minutes and the Zags forced six more turnovers form the Gaels.
Overall, Gonzaga shot 38.7 percent from the floor and 45 percent from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs also went 8-for-9 from the charity stripe. Saint Mary's shot 40 percent and 30 percent from the three.
The Zags forced 20 turnovers and scored 25 points off those miscues. The Zags also won the rebounding battle, 38-30, with Ejim grabbing a team-high eight.
Records: This marks the ninth time this season that
Yvonne Ejim has scored at least 20 points in a game. She has also scored in double figures 24 times this season.
With 14 points today,
Kaylynne Truong has now scored in double figures for 18-straight games and has scored in double digits in 25 games so far this year.
Brynna Maxwell scored two three-pointers today to extend her streak to scoring at least one in all 28 games this season.
Home Sweet Home
With 20-straight wins at home, the Zags hold the second largest home winning streak in the nation. The Bulldogs are only behind South Carolina, who have won 39-straight.
The Zags went undefeated at home with a perfect 15-0. It is the first time Gonzaga has been perfect at home since the 2020-21 season (9-0) and the 2019-20 season (15-0).
