No. 16/15 WBB Plays Portland in WCC Tournament Championship Game on Tuesday

The Zags look for their third-straight tournament title

THE TIPOFF
- The Gonzaga women's basketball team plays for the West Coast Conference Tournament Title tomorrow, March 7, against No. 2-seeded Portland. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPNU. 
- GU is coming off a 79-64 win over BYU on March 6 in the WCC Semifinals game.  Yvonne Ejim had 21 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for her ninth career double-double, Brynna Maxwell made four 3-pointers and scored 18
- The Zags have three players currently averaging double digits in so far this season, including Kaylynne Truong (16), Yvonne Ejim (16.6), and Brynna Maxwell (14.1). Ejim is currently fourth in the WCC in scoring with Kaylynne being fifth. Maxwell is also 11th in the conference.
- The Bulldogs are currently shooting at a program record 79  percent from the free throw line, which also ranks 10th in the country. Brynna Maxwell leads the team individually with 94.7 percent, which leads the conference. She currently has only missed four free throws so far this year and has made 76. 
- Brynna Maxwell has made a three-pointer in 30 of 31 games this year. Maxwell is shooting 50.6 percent from the three-point line to lead the nation. 
- As a team, the Bulldogs are shooting a school record breaking 41.9  percent from beyond the arc, which is currently leading the nation. Kaylynne Truong ranks 17th in the country and fourth in the WCC with 41.8 percent. 
- Gonzaga went undefeated at home this year. GU has won the last 20-straight home games, which is the second best home winning streak in the country.
- Kaylynne Truong is currently dishing out five assists a game to rank first in the conference and 31st in the country. Overall, she has recorded 155 assists which is good for 31st in the nation. She has also scored in double figures in 27 games total this year. Against Portland, she scored her 1,000th career point in a Gonzaga uniform. 
- The Zags are 29th in the country in field goal percentage with 45.4 percent. The mark is good for second in the WCC.
- Injuries have been an issue for GU this season as Gonzaga has been without senior guard Kayleigh Truong since Nov. 21. She returned to the lineup for the first time against San Diego on Feb. 23. 
- Lisa Fortier was named WCC Coach of the Year and Kaylynne Truong was tabbed WCC Player of the Year last week. It was the fifth time Fortier has been given the honor. Yvonne Ejim, Brynna Maxwell and Truong were also named to All-WCC First Team. McKayla Williams was honored with All-WCC Honorable Mention and Calli Stokes was tabbed to the All-WCC Freshman Team. 
- Gonzaga has amassed a conference record of 274-34 (.889) during the last 18 seasons, which includes 17 West Coast Conference regular-season titles and nine WCC Tournament championships.
- Lisa Fortier was recently named a Naismith Coach of the Year candidate. 
- Last season, the Zags advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight year under Lisa Fortier.

THE SERIES
SERIES INFO: This will be the 87th matchup between the two programs and the Zags hold a 60-27 record over the Pilots.             
STREAK: Gonzaga - 6            
FIRST MEETING: In 1981, the Zags won 78-72 on the road.            
LAST MEETING: The Bulldogs went 2-0 against the Pilots this season with the most recent win being back on Feb. 11 at home, 63-53.    

SCOUTING THE PILOTS
- The Portland Pilots sit at 22-8 and 15-3 in the WCC this season. Alex Fowler leads the team with 17.9 points a game.
- Portland is coming off a 75-73 win over Pacific in the WCC Semifinals. The Pilots rallied from a three-point 58-55 third quarter deficit to pick up the win.
Against Pacific, the Pilots recorded an assist on 72 percent of made baskets and 21 total assists. Alex Fowler led the Pilots with a game-high 29 points. It is a season high for the forward. Portland got a team-high six rebounds from Alex Fowler as well.
- The Pilots advance to their second championship in four years under head coach Michael Meek.
- Portland's 22 wins are officially the most since the 1996-97 season.
