SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga men's and women's track concluded competition at the Whitworth Twilight Meet on Thursday with nine different Top-5 event placings, including second-place finishes from
Emily Phelps (Women's 1500m),
Will Thorsett (Men's 1500m) and
Jackson Lyne (Men's 5000m) in the distance events.
Alex Knight (3rd, 12.81s) and
Grace Dalton (6th, 13.49s) both recorded their best event placings of the spring in the 100m to kick off a sprint-heavy day for the Zag women, with
Leighton Joy (5th, 28.31s) finishing ahead of Ashlinn Aguayo (6th, 29.14s) and
Taylor Biondi (7th, 29.37s) to make it three more Zags in the Top 10 of the Women's 200m. The GU trio repeated the feat in the 400m, with Joy finishing in 1:02.46 for fifth overall and Aguayo (1:03.09) in sixth and Biondi (1:03.42) in seventh ahead of
Karina Smith (9th, 1:05.82).
In the 800m,
Elizabeth Brands led the way with a third-place finish, crossing the finish line in 2:20.31 ahead of
Tate Beasley (6th, 2:24.64) and
Kate Ferrell (7th, 2:25.68). On the men's side, GU was represented by
Will Thorsett (9th, 2:01.60) and
James Powers (12th, 2:06.52).
The 1500m saw Thorsett (3:59.29) and
Emily Phelps (4:46.18) both finish second overall, with
Jorun Downing (3rd, 4:47.2) and
Georgi Brady (4th, 4:47.70) finishing behind Phelps in order in the women's race and Powers cracking the Top 10 of the men's race with a 4:12.83 finish.
Jackson Lyne was the sole Zag competing in the 5K, finishing second overall with a 15:16.50 time.
