Garcia Shatters 10K Program Record at Stanford Invite

Gonzaga Men's and Women's Track wrapped up a weekend of competition in the Bay Area at the Stanford Invitational and Mike Fanelli Classic, highlighted by a new program record in the 10K from Kristen Garcia and personal bests from Wil Smith in the 10K and Rosina Machu in the 5K.

Ansel Tucker led the way in the fifth heat of the Men's 5K with a 14:36.38 finish, ahead of Nicola DiMartino (14:42.95), Jackson Lyne (14:43.72) and Aidan Baughan (14:49.05). Carp Mukai finished second in his heat of the 1500m with a 3:53.12 time, with Evan Bates (3:53.46) just behind in fourth.

Wil Smith put down a new personal best in the 10K to lead GU's contingent there, finishing in 28:24.03 for 14th overall ahead of Yacine Guermali (29:55.07). In the second heat, Bryce Cerkowniak finished 31st with a 29:35.06 time and Riley Moore was 35th (30:30.32).

In the 3,000m Men's Steeple, Cullen McEachern finished fourth in his section with 8:46.29, with Cooper Laird following with a 8:51.98 finish for seventh in his heat and Paul Talens finishing in 9:05.06 to finish fifth in his heat ahead of Jaxon Mackie (9:06.50).

On the women's side, Ellie Armbruster finished just half a second short of her program record in the 400m, winning her heat with a 0:57.48 finish.

Rosina Machu put down a career-best in the 5K, finishing in 16:07.37 to take fifth in her heat. Kristen Garcia followed with a 33:01.77 10K finish that shattered the previous program record by more than 26 seconds and placed her 20th in her section, and Caramia Mestler finished in 33:49.63 for third-fastest all-time and 17th in the second section. Machu's time was the second-fastest in program history, and she has now posted the fastest 5,000m and 3,000m times on GU's roster this season.

Alicia Anderson followed with a 10th-place overall finish in the 1500m, where she put down a 4:24.17 time that was just a few seconds shy of her PR at NCAA Prelims last spring.

Over at San Francisco State, Sadie Tuckwood (2nd, 4:28.58) and Brittney Hansen (15th, 4:34.23) both cracked the overall Top 15 in the women's 1500m, with Kate Donaldson finishing eighth in her heat with a 4:40.93 time and Anna Lanigan winning her section with a 4:38.67 finish. Just behind Lanigan was Jillian Greene (4:44.78). Tuckwood's time was the fifth-best in program history.

Jasmine Nguyen (17:35.04) and Makenna Edwards (17:38.46) represented GU in the 5,000m, with Nguyen posting a personal best for the second straight meet after a PR in the 3,000m at Whitworth.
