SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team continued their spring conference schedule with a home match against Loyola Marymount University and won 4-1. Entering the match, Gonzaga had won the previous three matches against Loyola Marymount.
Today's match opened with one of the most entertaining doubles competitions of the spring tennis season. On court one, Gonzaga's
Sasha Trkulja and
Matthew Hollingworth earned a 6-3 victory over Loyola Marymount's John Otico and Austin Di Giulio. With the victory, Trkulja and Hollingworth are now 8-5 in their completed doubles matches this season. Loyola Marymount tied the doubles competition when Toky Ranaivo and Yassine Smiej defeated Gonzaga's
Tom Hann and
Pablo Gomez Galvan by a score of 6-3 on court three. In the No.2 spot, Loyola Marymount clinched the doubles point when Arthur Pantino and Emin Torlic picked up a 7-6 win against Gonzaga's
Leon Roider and Arthus Bassetiere.
Gonzaga bounced back in the singles competition, as they took all six of the first sets against Loyola Marymount. In the No. 2 spot, Gonzaga tied the match when Bassetiere defeated Smiej by a score of 6-1, 6-3. On court four, Hann picked up his second win of the weekend, defeating Otico by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Gonzaga expanded their lead when Gomez Galvan earned a 6-4, 6-4 court four win against Di Giulio.
Gonzaga clinched the team victory when Roider earned a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Ranaivo in the No.5 spot. With the team victory already clinched by Gonzaga, all remaining singles matches went unfinished.
Up next: Following today's match, the Gonzaga men's tennis team will travel to California to play Saint Mary's on April 15 at 2 p.m., and Pacific on April 16 at 11 a.m. The Zags will return to the Stevens Center for their final regular season conference dual match on April 22, when they will face Portland at 12 p.m. in the Stevens Center.

Records: With the win, the season record for Gonzaga improves to 8-9. For Loyola Marymount, their record on the year drops to 9-8 with the loss. The historical record between the Zags and Lions also moves to 5-24 in favor of Loyola Marymount.
