Zags Fall to Oklahoma on Senior Day

13 Seniors playing their final home game honored pregame

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga Baseball held Oklahoma off the board for the final four innings in its final home game of the season Sunday at Hertz Field and Patterson Baseball Complex, but the Bulldogs (18-30, 14-10 WCC) couldn't score another run over its final eight frames despite 11 hits as the Sooners (29-22, 10-11 Big 12) held on for a 9-1 win.

Prior to first pitch, 13 seniors who played their final home game at Patterson Baseball Complex were honored for their contributions to the Gonzaga Baseball program – Savier Pinales, Connor Coballes, Grayson Sterling, Dylan Johnson, Ezra Samperi, Mason Marenco, Alex Zerfass, Nate Weeldreyer, Ty Buckner, Reagan Haas, Jacob Rutherford, Bradley Mullan and Jack Moffitt.

Pinales went 3-for-4 and Marenco and Brian Kalmer both added with a pair of hits each to lead GU's lineup, with Marenco driving in the Zags' lone run and Sterling, Coballes, Enzo Apodaca and Sam Stem adding a knock each. Mullan went 3 ⅓ in his fourth start of the season on the mound, striking out two but being tagged for seven runs on 10 hits while walking two.

The Sooners set the tone early, plating six runs over the first two frames on seven hits, but the Zags pushed across their first run on a fielder's choice knock from Marenco in the bottom of the second and Mullan calmed things down with a scoreless third that saw him strike out two.

RHP Nathan DeSchryver (3 ⅔ IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) and RHP Jack Moffitt (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K) combined for four scoreless frames to close and the Zags picked up eight more hits while getting a runner in scoring position in each of the final three innings, but the Sooners stranded nine baserunners in total to keep the deficit unchanged and seal the sweep.
