Lions Earn 3-0 Win Over Volleyball

Damuni finished with match-high 19 assists

SPOKANE, Wash. – Loyola Marymount won its 10th match of the season with a 3-0 road victory over Gonzaga volleyball Saturday in the Martin Centre.
 
THE ACTION
First set – Loyola Marymount 25-23
  • After jumping out to a 3-1 lead, Gonzaga took an 8-5 advantage after an LMU (10-4, 3-1 West Coast Conference) attack error.
  • Trailing 17-15, the Bulldogs went on a 3-0 run after a kill by Maggie Rickert and an ace by Zoe Thiros.
  • GU tied the set at 23 following a Thiros kill. The Lions sealed the set victory with back-to-back kills.
  • The Zags' Nia Damuni finished the set with seven assists, while Thiros had four kills. Alisa Kim added four digs.
  • The first set featured 13 ties and seven lead changes.
Second set – Loyola Marymount 25-20
  • Block assists from Thiros and Grace Ehler evened the set at 5-5.
  • After trailing by seven, GU made a run to cut the lead to 18-16 for LMU, with block assists to Ehler and Juliette Russell.
  • Despite efforts to bring the score within three, LMU hung on to take Set Two, 25-20.
  • Damuni had six assists in the second set.
Third set – Loyola Marymount 25-19
  • The Lions got out to an early third set lead, but the Bulldogs would cut into the margin with three straight points from a kill by Ehler and block assists to Ehler and Russell to make the LMU lead 7-6.
  • A solo block by Russell capped another a 3-0 Zag run with the score 13-10 in favor of Loyola Marymount.
  • Once again, GU strung together some rallies, but the Lions' lead proved too much as the visitors hung on to complete the 3-0 sweep.
  • Damuni had six more assists in Set 3.

Damuni finished with a match-high 19 assists for Gonzaga (3-12, 0-4 WCC). Thiros matched a match-high of nine kills, adding seven digs and an ace. Kim had a team-high eight digs. Ehler and Russell ended with five and four block assists respectively.
