PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 18/19 Gonzaga women's basketball teamed opened West Coast Conference play with a 74-53 win over Portland.
Brynna Maxwell led the with 21 points as she went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and 7-for-11 from the floor. 
Yvonne Ejim was the other double figure scorer with 18 points and five rebounds.
Three Zags also scored nine points including 
Calli Stokes, 
Kayleigh Truong and 
Eliza Hollingsworth.
Gonzaga opened the game with an 11-0 run to take a 20-6 lead with four seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Zags shot at 40% in the opening quarter and held Portland to 27.3%.
At the half, Ejim led the team with 11 points with Maxwell right behind her with 10 to help the Zags take a 36-28 lead. Hollingsworth grabbed a team-high seven rebounds as GU 
outrebounded Portland, 29-11.
At the end of the third quarter, the Zags held a 54-38 lead. Ejim scored another seven points for GU as the Bulldogs held the Pilots to shooting at 26.7%.
The Zags closed out the game with an 8-0 run to secure a 20-point fourth quarter. Maxwell scored nine points in the final ten minutes of regulation.
Defensively, GU 
outrebounded Portland, 48-32, and forced 11 turnovers. Overall, the team shot 37.3% and held the Pilots to 32.8%. The Bulldogs scored 30 points inside the paint and recorded 15 assists as a team.
Notes: 
With 18 points today, Ejim has scored double figures for 21-straight games.
The Zags move to 14-2 overall and 1-0 in WCC play.
