SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga men's basketball was ranked No. 7 in the preseason USA TODAY Sports/Coaches poll.
Gonzaga opens in the top-20 of the poll for the 12th straight year. GU appears in the coaches' preseason poll for the 15th straight season.
Kansas was No. 1 in the preseason poll for the second straight season, collecting 15 of the 31 first-place votes. Alabama received six first-place votes and was No. 2. UConn also received six first-place votes and was No. 3. The Zags and UConn square off in New York City Dec. 14. Houston and Duke round out the Top 5.
Gonzaga opens the regular season with No. 8 Baylor in the Spokane Arena on Nov. 4. The Bulldogs face No. 22 UCLA in Inglewood, Calif., on Dec. 28, and play No. 23 Kentucky in the Battle in Seattle on Dec. 7.
Potential Battle 4 Atlantis opponents, Arizona and Indiana, were ranked No. 9 and No. 18. Saint Mary's (Feb. 1 and 22) and San Diego State (Nov. 18) received votes in the annual preseason poll.
