SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's soccer team dropped the West Coast Conference home opener with a 2-1 loss to No. 13 San Diego.
Gonzaga (6-4-2) got on the board first in the 31st minute with a goal from
Talan Rochelle, assisted by
Alex Bazia, to take the 1-0 lead.
In the 40th minute, USD (8-1-2) responded with a goal from Oliver Rhoades with the assist from Jack Sandmeyer, to make it 1-1.
The Zags remained tied with the Toreros going into halftime at 1-1. USD outshot the Zags 4-2 in the opening half as
Chema Preciado made two saves as well.
San Diego scored the eventual game-winner in the 87th minute with an unassisted goal from Cesar Bahena, marking his sixth goal of the year.
Overall, USD outshot Gonzaga 13-3 and Preciado made seven saves on the night.

Alex Bazia all recorded a shot as Rochelle and Bazia both had theirs on target.
San Diego also had possession for 63% of the game while the Toreros drew eight corner kicks compared to GU's one.
