WTEN: Zags Fall to Seattle, 5-2

The Bulldogs hit the road next week

Box Score SPOKANE, Wash.The Gonzaga women's tennis team continued their nonconference dual schedule with a competitive match against Seattle University earlier this afternoon. Entering the competition, the Zags had won the previous eight matches against the RedHawks, a stretch dating back to the 2014 season.
 
Gonzaga's Emily Robertson and Kianna Oda started strong in the doubles competition, earning a 6-2 court one victory against Seattle's Elena Kraleva and Anastasia Nikolova. Seattle tied the doubles competition when Lamija Avdic and Lola Tavcar claimed a 6-3 court three win over Gonzaga's Caroline Wernli and Ella Nielsen. In the No.2 spot, Seattle clinched the doubles point when Yuna Kadowaki and Liliya Dimova defeated Gonzaga's Tiegan Aitken and Brooke Bittner by a score of 6-2.
 
As the singles competition began, Seattle expanded their lead when Kadowaki clinched a 6-1, 6-1 court six win against Gonzaga's Lia Espinal. Gonzaga earned their first team point of the day when Nielsen defeated Nikolova by a score of 6-2, 6-1. In the No.3 spot, Dimova picked up a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Aitken.

On court two, Seattle clinched the team victory when Avdic claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Oda. Later on, Robertson earned a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 victory against Kraleva in resilient fashion. In the final singles match of the day, Quintana defeated Wernli by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
 
Up Next: The Gonzaga women's tennis team will travel to Tennessee following today's match, as they are scheduled to face Belmont University on February 17th and Lipscomb University on February 18th.

Records: Today's loss drops the season record of Gonzaga to 2-4. For Seattle, their record on the year improves to 4-3 with the win. The historical record between the Bulldogs and RedHawks also moves to 17-2 following today's match.
