SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's tennis team had a nonconference dual match against Montana State earlier this afternoon. Entering the contest, the Bulldogs had won the previous five matches against the Bobcats, a streak dating back to the 2018 season.

Gonzaga opened the doubles competition strong, with freshmen pair Emily Robertson and Ella Nielsen earning a 6-1 court two victory against Montana State's Paula Dougherty and Meg McCarty. Montana State tied the doubles competition on court one, when Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Hudson Hawkins claimed a 6-2 win over Gonzaga's Kianna Oda and Tiegan Aitken. In the No.3 spot, Gonzaga's Caroline Wernli and Brooke Bittner clinched the doubles point for Gonzaga, defeating Montana State's Angel Bean and Jazmin Lerman by a score of 6-2.

Moving to the singles competition, the Bobcats tied the event when Felicia Jayasaputra clinched a 6-0, 6-4 court six win against Bittner. Shortly after, Oda dominated on court two, defeating Doughtery by a score of 6-1, 6-4. The competition was tied at two when Garcia-Reboredo picked up a 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 victory over Robertson on court one.

The Bobcats earned their first lead of the day when McCarty claimed a 7-5, 6-4 court three win over Nielsen. In the No.5 spot, Montana State clinched the team victory when Lerman defeated Wernli by a score of 6-4, 6-3.

With the Bobcats having already clinched the team victory, the court four match between Aitken and Bean went unfinished, ending with a score of 6-4, 5-5.

Up Next: Following today's match, the Zags will prepare to host Utah State and Eastern Washington in a doubleheader on Sunday, February 25th. Gonzaga's match against Utah State is scheduled to start at 10 am, and the following match against Eastern Washington will begin at 3 pm.

Records: Today's loss moves Gonzaga's season record to 3-6. For Montana State, their record on the year improves to 6-3 with the win. The historical record between the Bulldogs and Bobcats also moves to 9-9.
