PROVO, Utah – Avoiding a potential rainout on Saturday, Gonzaga and BYU faced off in a doubleheader of the final two games of their three-game set on Friday. After taking an 11-2 win in the opener, BYU completed the sweep of Gonzaga with a 6-4 victory in the nightcap.
Gonzaga (1-9) scored right away in the opener on a two-out single from
Sam Stem. BYU (5-5) would answer with three of their own in the bottom half before adding a another in the second to take a 4-1 lead. The Zags got their second run in the third after scoring on a BYU balk to cut the lead to two.
BYU's bats picked up over the next four innings as the Cougars scored seven runs to open an 11-2 lead. Despite putting runners on base in four of the final six frames, Gonzaga was unable to bring them around as BYU completed the nine-run win.
Gonzaga outhit BYU in the series finale Friday afternoon by a count of 10-7, but the Cougars found their way to six runs thanks to some timely hitting in the second, third and sixth innings which saw five runs scored with two outs.
Cooper Vest led the charge for BYU, picking up two home runs on the day, including a two-run shot in the third inning of game two. Gonzaga would take a 4-3 lead after a three-run fourth inning, but BYU would answer in the fifth and sixth innings to tie and take back the lead, this time for good.

Peyton Miller extended his hit streak to eight games after picking up a hit in each game on Friday.
Josh Hankins recorded three hits on the day, while a trio of Zags recorded multi-hit games in the nightcap.
