SPOKANE, Wash. – No. 14 Gonzaga women's basketball team was selected to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament in McCarthey Athletic Center as a four-seed. The Zags drew 13th-seeded UC Irvine as Utah and South Dakota State are the other teams visiting Spokane. The first round games will take place on Saturday, March 23, at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
This will be the fourth time the two teams face each other. Gonzaga currently leads the overall series 2-1 with the last win being at home in 2017, 102-38.
Gonzaga is making its seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance under head coach
Lisa Fortier. The four-seed is the best ranking in program history with the previous best being the No. 5 seed.
UC Irvine currently sits at 23-8 overall and is coming off a championship win over UC Davis, 53-39. The Anteaters are led by Deja Lee who scores an average 13.9 points per game.
The winner of the GU and UC Irvine first-round game will advance to a second-round game against the winner of South Dakota State and Utah.
