LAKE NATOMA, Calif. -- The Gonzaga women's rowing team wrapped up the second day of races at the Lake Natoma Invite with wins in every race.
The highlight of the day was being the 2V4 boat was really aggressive and sharp. The 2V8 boat also really improved on the middle of the race in terms of maintaining their speed through the 2nd and 3rd 500.
"This was a great opportunity to race hard twice yesterday and come back and have to perform again well," head coach
Andrew Derrick said. "I think for the most part we rose to that challenge. The Varsity Eight did not have a great race, but they learned a couple really valuable things about themselves and racing that will ultimately make them better later in the season, and that's the whole point. The Varsity Four continued to improve and the 2v8 did a great job of attacking some weaknesses from the day before. However it was the 2v4 that stood out to me as the boat that looked really sharp and driven going by the beach. Great job by the six athletes that raced in that crew this weekend!
In the Varsity Eight race, the Zags took first with a time of 6:38.1, over LMU and Sacramento State. In the second race of the day, the 2V8 boat finished first in 6:54.0 over LMU and Sacramento State.
In the Varsity Four race, the Bulldogs dominated with a 7:46.2 time over Sacramento State's 8:02.7 and LMU's 8:07.0 finishes.
The 2V4 boat also dominated their race with a first place finish of 7:42.6, compared to Sacramento State's 8:03.8 finish.
"It was amazing to see the continuous improvement throughout the weekend," Maddie Reed said of the 2V4 race.
"The balance and set was amazing, so we felt really strong and quick,"
Marjane Rivat added as she was the four seat for the 2V4 boat.
