SPOKANE, Wash. – Earlier this afternoon, the Gonzaga women's tennis team hosted Loyola Marymount in a conference dual match. Entering the match, the Bulldogs had won six of the previous ten matches against the Lions, a streak dating back to the 2014 season.
In the doubles competition, Loyola Marymount jumped out to an early lead when Kim-Michaela Zahraj and Romane Longueville earned a 6-0 court three win over Gonzaga's Brooke Bittner and Lia Espinal. Gonzaga tied the doubles competition on court two, as the freshmen duo of Emily Robertson and Ella Nielsen claimed a 6-3 victory against Loyola Marymount's Fiona Arrese and Carlota Molina. In the No.1 spot, Gonzaga clinched the doubles point when Kianna Oda and Tiegan Aitken defeated Loyola Marymount's Isabella Tcherkes-Zade and Stefania Rogozinska-Dzik by a score of 6-4.
Moving to the singles matches, Loyola Marymount tied the competition when Longueville defeated Espinal by a score of 6-2, 6-2. On court four, Aitken shined, earning a 6-4, 6-2 win against Zahraj. Loyola Marymount once again tied the competition on court three, as Molina defeated Nielsen by a score of 6-2, 6-4.
Gonzaga continued to battle, with Oda claiming an impressive 7-5, 6-3 court two victory over Tcherkes-Zade in straight sets. On court five, Loyola Marymount tied the competition at three when Arrese earned a 6-4, 7-6 win against Bittner. In the No.1 spot, Loyola Marymount clinched the team victory when Stefania Rogozinska-Dzik defeated Robertson by a score of 6-7, 6-2, 6-1.
Up Next: Following today's match, the Gonzaga women's tennis team will have their final home matches of the season next week, starting by hosting San Diego on Friday, April 12th at 4 pm. The Zags will celebrate Senior Day when they face Pepperdine on Sunday, April 14th at noon.
