SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference released their All-Conference honors ahead of the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas on Tuesday. Five Gonzaga athletes were named All-WCC Honorable Mention:
Tommy Eisenstat,
Justin Feld,
Erik Hoffberg,
Payton Knowles, and
Vincent Temesvary. In addition, Hoffberg, Knowles, and
Miles Gosztola were named to the All-Freshman team.
Eisenstat led the Zags in numerous offensive categories during the regular season, including batting average (.299), hits (53), and runs scored (30) while slugging .407. In addition, Eisenstat recorded 213 putouts and 11 assists on the season without recording a single error at first base for Gonzaga.
Feld cemented his way into the Friday starter role throughout the season, completing the regular season with a 3-2 record, 4.37 ERA with 55 strikeouts over 55 and two-thirds innings and nine starts. Feld's ERA was tenth-lowest in the West Coast Conference while allowing the fourth-fewest hits (56), fourth-fewest runs (30), and seventh-fewest earned runs (27).
Hoffberg earned the closing role early on for the Zags before moving into the first reliever out of the bullpen. His nine saves were tied for second-most in the WCC, posting an 0-3 record with a 3.90 ERA and 48 strikeouts over 27 and two-thirds innings.
Knowles moved into a starting role for Gonzaga after collecting some at bats off the bench to begin the season. His .288 batting average was second-best on the team, adding 34 hits, 14 runs batted in and scoring 23 runs of his own.
Temesvary played and started in all but one game for the Zags during the regular season, collecting a .263 batting average while leading the team with eight home runs. His 28 runs batted in were second-most for Gonzaga, combining for an OPS of 0.873.
Gosztola shuffled around the GU pitching staff throughout the regular season, appearing in 14 games with eight starts. During the middle parts of the WCC Conference slate, Gosztola moved into the Sunday starter role, picking up a Freshman of the Week honor. He finished the regular season with a 3-4 record and a 5.93 ERA, striking out 51 over 44 innings pitched.
The No. 4-seed Bulldogs (19-30, 14-10 WCC) are looking to snap a five-game losing skid to avoid elimination before the first round of the West Coast Conference Tournament on Wednesday.
