Few and Team USA Start Olympic Summer

Gonzaga head coach is an assistant for Olympic squad

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga men's basketball head coach Mark Few is serving as an assistant coach for the USA National Team, and the squad began its summer schedule this week in Las Vegas, before capping it off at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
 
Prior to Paris, Few and Team USA will play five friendly matches during the USA Basketball Showcase. The tour began in Las Vegas with a win over Canada Wednesday. USA heads to Abu Dhabi, where it will face Australia (July 15) and Serbia (July 17). The United States then plays South Sudan (July 20) and Germany (July 22) in London. The Olympic Opening Ceremonies are on July 26, and USA's first game of group play is against Serbia on July 28 in Lille, France.
 
Former Gonzaga standouts Andrew Nembhard and Kelly Olynyk are on the Canadian roster, while Filip Petrusev will play for Serbia, and Rui Hachimura will play for Japan at the Olympics. Jalen Suggs was on the USA Select Team that scrimmaged the U.S. National Team in Las Vegas.
 
Few was named on the coaching staff February 2023. He joined a staff that includes USA Head Coach and Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr, Miami Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra and Clippers Head Coach Tyronn Lue. Few is the lone collegiate coach on the staff. He helped guide Team USA at the FIBA World Cup in the Philippines last summer.
 
Few boasts plenty of USA Basketball experience. Serving as an assistant coach at the 2018 USA National Team minicamp, Few was named an assistant coach for the 2019 USA Men's Select Team, a team that helped prepare the USA World Cup Team prior to playing in China. He returned in 2021 as an assistant coach for the USA Men's Select Team to help prepare the gold medalist U.S. Olympic Team prior to playing in Tokyo.
 
He served as head coach of the 2015 U.S. Pan American Men's Basketball Team, a squad composed of collegiate players, and led the team to a bronze medal, and he also was an assistant coach for the gold medalist 2012 USA U18 National Team and a court coach for the 2009 USA Men's U19 World Cup/World University Games Team training camp.
 
The 2024 USA Men's National Team features Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat), Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers), Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers), Jrue Holiday (Boston Celtics), LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers), Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics), and Derrick White (Boston Celtics).
