Men's Soccer Wins 2-1 Against Houston Christian

The Zags are now 4-0 on the year

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's soccer team came out on top against Houston Christian, 2-1, on Sunday night at Luger Field. With the win, the Bulldogs are a perfect 4-0 for the first time since 1997.

The Zags got on the board first in the 27th minute with a goal from Drew Pedersen, assisted by Stefano Campisi. Pedersen headed the goal to the back of the net after Campisi dished the ball from outside the box for a perfect set up.

At the end of the half, GU outshot the Huskies, 6-5, and Chema Preciado kept them scoreless after having three clutch saves.

Gonzaga increased its lead in the 59th minute when Campisi had another perfect assist into Chris Swider to give GU the 2-0 lead. The goal marked Swider's fifth goal of the season as he currently leads the WCC in goals and goals per game (1.3).

Houston Christian scored in the 79th minute with a goal from Christian Rodriguez to bring the score to 2-1. The Huskies were not able to capitalize on any other opportunities as the Zags held on to the 2-1 win.

Overall, HCU outshot Gonzaga, 14-13, and both teams recorded five saves on the night. Gonzaga also drew five corner kicks compared to Houston Christian's three.

Campisi led the way with four shots, two of those on goal, and Ben Augee was right behind him with three. With Campisi's performance tonight, he now leads the WCC in assists (3) and shots (16).
