SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga volleyball concluded their home-opening weekend of the 2024 season inside the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre on Saturday, falling to Cal State Fullerton in a 3-0 sweep.
Gonzaga (1-4) looked to bounce back after a tough loss to Utah Tech on Friday, while Cal State Fullerton (1-4) returned to the Martin Centre after falling to Utah Tech on Thursday. After the day off, Fullerton came out swinging in the first, posting a dozen kills in a 25-20 first set win. The Zags and Titans battled for nearly the entire set before CSUF broke an 18-18 tie with a 6-2 run to close it out.
Fullerton continued to gain momentum in the second, notching 15 kills on a .324 hitting percentage.
Raechelle Dykstra picked up four kills in the set despite the 25-16 loss for GU. The story would continue after the break when CSUF expanded a 10-5 lead into a 25-12 win, using two 5-0 runs and a 4-0 run to quickly close out the sweep over Gonzaga.
Fullerton's Lolo Fonua was the match leader with 13 kills, recording a .667 hitting percentage. Dykstra was GU's leader in kills for the second straight match, picking up eight on the night.
Taylor Walsh and
Parker Austin each notched six kills, while
Brianna Martin added a season-high 11 digs.

Gonzaga will be back on the road next week at the Boise State Classic. They will face Idaho State on Friday, CSU Bakersfield on Saturday, and tournament-host Boise State on Sunday before returning home on Sept. 20.
