STOCKTON, Calif. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team continued play at the ITA Division I Men's Northwest Regional Championships on Friday, highlighted by multiple singles victories and strong doubles performances in Stockton.
In singles action, Giovanni Branchetti battled back for a gritty three-set win, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5, while Jay Fairclough and Nicholas Reeves each secured straight-set victories, both earning 6-2, 6-4 wins. Tom Dunlop dropped a tight 6-3, 7-6 contest, and Oscar Rashed was forced to retire early in his opening set. James Hutchinson and Gus Krauel each fell in their respective matches.
The Zags also impressed in doubles play. Krauel and Diego Herrera put together a solid run, winning 8-1 in their opening match and advancing again with an 8-5 victory in the second round. Reeves and Hutchinson also started strong with an 8-3 win before falling 8-5 in their next match. Rashed and Dunlop picked up an 8-7 victory in their opener before being edged out 8-2 in round two, while Fairclough and Branchetti came up just short in a narrow 8-7 loss.
Competition continues Saturday in Stockton as Gonzaga looks to build on its early success at the regional tournament.
