Men's Rowing Sweeps Competition at Head of the American

The Zags conclude the fall season

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Gonzaga men's rowing capped its fall racing season with a strong performance at the Head of the American on Lake Natoma Saturday, earning victories in both the Men's Collegiate 4+ and Men's Collegiate 8+ events.

"The fours started the day strong and set a great foundation for the eights. Even with some last-minute lineup changes due to illness, the team adjusted well and competed hard. We wrapped up the day with strong results across the board, with the eights finishing first, third, and seventh in a deep field," said Assistant Coach Kayla Cartelli

The Bulldogs opened the morning with a dominant showing in the Men's Collegiate 4+, sweeping the top two spots. Gonzaga's First Varsity Four — Bradley Williams, Toby Finn, Brendan Kelly, Hunter Scott and Luke Krentel— won the event in 17:23.5, while the Second Varsity Four of Bennett Hay, Hiro Akin, Jack Surface, Patrick Weyrauch and Max Ransom followed close behind in 17:37.9 to take second place.

Later in the day, the Bulldogs' Varsity Eight continued the success with another first-place finish. The crew of Elliott Olcott, Hiro Akin, Toby Finn, Brendan Kelly, Hunter Scott, Patrick Weyrauch, Jack Surface, Luke Krentel and Max Ransom clocked a winning time of 16:00.3 to top the Men's Collegiate 8+ field of 13 boats.

Gonzaga's depth was on display throughout the event, as the Junior Varsity Eight of Bennett Hay, Cooper Loney, Levi Yoos, Haydon Evenson, Trent Blair, Kyle Peter, Nicholas Vlasceanu, Charlie Serafin and Henry Bakos finished third overall in 16:41.4, and the Third Varsity Eight — Taylor Gonsalves, Joshua O'Connor, Patrick McComas, Andrew Kralj, Marco Alfieri, Andrew Phipps, Flynn Davis, Josh Huss and Adam Overbay — placed seventh with a time of 17:28.3.

The Bulldogs now turn their attention to winter training as they prepare for the upcoming spring season.
