Women’s Soccer Beats San Francisco, 2-0

Severn scores a goal and records assist

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga secured a 2-0 victory over San Francisco at Luger Field Saturday.
 
For the second straight game, Gonzaga's (4-7-0, 2-1-0 West Coast Conference) Amelia Severn scored a goal and record an assist. The Zags recorded their second straight shutout. GU outshot the Dons, 19-5, with a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal. Gonzaga possessed the ball for 55 percent of the match.
 
The Bulldogs opened the first half with a quick offensive push, culminating in Emily Todd's first goal of the season in the fourth minute, assisted by Severn. GU maintained pressure throughout, recording multiple shots, including efforts from Katelyn Rigg and Lauren Chin, though San Francisco's goalkeeper, Tyra Bengtsson-Stenseth, managed several saves to keep the deficit from widening.
 
Severn scored her fourth goal of the season in the 68th minute on a corner kick that curled into the net. Katelyn Rigg led the team with seven shots, putting two on goal.
 
San Francisco (1-6-3, 0-2-1 WCC) attempted to respond but was repeatedly halted by Gonzaga's defense, including a key save by Michaela McCollum in the 86th minute. She made two saves in her 90 minutes in the Zag net. Bengtsson-Stenseth made seven saves for USF.
 
Gonzaga hosts Loyola Marymount (5-3-1, 2-1-0) Wednesday at 6 p.m. The match will stream on ESPN+ with live stats on GoZags.com.
