Volleyball comes up short in Pullman on Saturday

PULLMAN, Wash.- The Zags fell in straight sets against Washington State on Saturday amidst an impressive display from the Cougars.

The Cougars captured the sets by scores of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-18 as a result of their remarkable attacking  performance. Washington State had a major .500 hitting percentage. They killed over half of their attacks in two separate sets today. This is the highest any opponent has hit against GU in a match thus far this year.

The beginnings of each set saw competitive exchanges early on before they would go the way of Washington State. GU initially led through the first ten points of the match, but Washington State rallied with a series of runs that was highlighted by an ace by Tinons Munar Galmes to take an advantage that later proved insurmountable. The Zags did not have an ace in the game, an area of strength in recent matches that was sorely missed in Pullman. They were out blocked a the net, as WSU had 7 blocks to the solo performance of 4 blocks by Dani Johnson.

Washington State was powered by a game leading 15 kills from Taryn Vrieling, who hit an impressive .571%. Sjakkie Donkers led the Zags with 14 kills on .500 hitting percentage. The Zags came up short today but will return to the road on Thursday, October 9th when they take on Oregon State.
