MORAGA, Calif. – Mikey Lewis scored 16 points to lead Saint Mary's and Harry Wessels secured the victory with two free throws with 49 seconds remaining as the Gaels defeated Gonzaga 62-58 Saturday.
Lewis made four threes for the Gaels (20-3, 10-0 West Coast Conference). Paulius Murauskas added 12 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Ross had 10 points. Mitchell Saxen grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and Augustas Marciulionis had nine assists. The Gaels extended their winning streak to 10 games.
Graham Ike led the way for the Bulldogs (16-7, 7-3) with 24 points and eight rebounds.
Ryan Nembhard, the nation's leader in assists, finished with 12 against SMC. He added 11 points and three steals.
Saint Mary's led by as many as 14, 32-18, at the 7:41 mark of the first half, and went into halftime leading 36-28. GU stormed back and took its first lead, 39-38, at the 16:13 mark of the second half. A
Braden Huff lay-in gave the Zags their largest lead, 49-45, with 9:57 remaining in regulation. The game featured six ties and six lead changes.
