SEATTLE, Wash. – Gonzaga track kicked off their final weekend of the 2024-25 indoor season at the Husky Classic on the Dempsey Indoor track on Friday. The Bulldogs will conclude with a split-squad Saturday, racing in Seattle and Spokane at the Husky Classic and Whitworth Invitational.
Gonzaga competed in the distance events Friday afternoon inside Dempsey, opening first with the women's and men's 3000-meters.
Willow Collins,
Alexi Fogo, and
Jade Rypkema led off for the Zags, with Fogo and Rypkema earning personal best times.
In the third heat, Fogo placed second in 9:25.88 for a 25-second PR, entering the program top ten at No. 2 all time. Rypkema placed tenth in the same heat with an 11-second PR, finishing in 9:36.69. In the fastest heat of Friday's collegiate division, Collins (9:16.53) was four seconds shy of her program-record personal best she set last year.
Rosina Machu will race in the 3000m on Saturday, running in the lone invite section of the event against some of the NCAA's top distance runners.
On the men's side,
Cooper Laird ran in the first of seven heats, finishing in 8:20.49. The lone other Zag in the men's 3K was
Wil Smith, who finished sixth in the penultimate heat with a time of 7:50.18 despite hurdling a falling runner near the beginning of the bell lap.
In the final event for GU on Friday, four Bulldog men raced in the 5000-meters.
Drew Kolodge,
Mason Kissell,
Jacob Alfonso, and
Caden Swanson all earned personal best times to close out Gonzaga's day one.
In the first of two heats, Kissell placed third in 14:13.29, earning the No. 8 spot in the program top ten. Alfonso placed eighth in 14:18.59 to set his indoor PR, and Swanson placed 12th in 14:30.94 to improve his PR by nearly 45 seconds. In heat two, Kolodge placed fourth, dipping under 14 minutes for the second time in his career and solidifying his spot at No. 4 on the program top ten list.
