SPOKANE, Wash. –
Kai-Luca Ampaw's three-set singles victory propelled Gonzaga men's tennis past No. 69 Montana at the Stevens Center.
The Grizzlies, who entered Sunday 8-0 this spring, notched the dual's doubles point.
Tom Dunlop/
Diego Herrera fell 6-1,
Jay Fairclough/
Nicholas Reeves won 6-4, and
Giovanni Branchetti/Ampaw were outlasted 7-6 (4) in a tiebreaker.
As the dual moved to singles, the Bulldogs quickly took a 3-1 lead in the overall match with dominant showings from Dunlop (6-1, 6-1),
Oscar Rashed (6-2, 6-3), and Reeves (6-4, 6-3).
The final three singles contests were neck-and-neck, with Montana needing all three to clinch the dual. On court 2, Ampaw took the first set 6-4 and dropped the second frame 6-3. The freshman cruised 6-1 in the deciding set to win his bout and clinch the overall match for Gonzaga.
Montana claimed another point by surviving Branchetti 7-5, 7-6 (5), then Fairclough overcame a dropped first set and a third-set tiebreaker to triumph 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (5).
UP NEXT: The Bulldogs stay home next weekend, hosting Seattle (March 1) and Idaho (March 2) at the Stevens Center. For those unable to attend, live video and stats will be available at
