SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga baseball's
Tommy Eisenstat and
Justin Feld were selected to the West Coast Conference Preseason Team, the league announced on Thursday. In addition, the Zags were picked to finish third in the conference according to the league's annual poll.
The preseason poll and All-WCC team were selected solely by a vote of the conference's nine head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams or student-athletes.
Last season, Eisenstat led the Bulldogs in seven offensive categories, including average (.301), runs (34), hits (58), and RBI (30). In addition, he earned West Coast Conference Honorable Mention with one WCC Player of the Week honor.
On the pitching side, Feld is Gonzaga's leading returner in seven pitching categories. Amongst WCC ranks, Feld's 4.16 was tenth last season while allowing the fourth-fewest total earned runs (29). He struck out 62 batters over 62.2 IP, averaging just under nine strikeouts per nine. Feld was the second of five Bulldogs to earn All-WCC Honorable Mention in 2024.
Gonzaga was picked third in the WCC preseason poll with Santa Clara. The Zags advanced to the penultimate game of the West Coast Conference Tournament last season after finishing fourth in the regular season.
San Diego topped the preseason poll with 64 points and eight first-place votes, while Portland came in second with 48 points and the final first-place vote. Just five points separate the poll's second-place and fifth-place teams.
GU is the only team to appear in the last seven WCC Championship Tournaments, and their nine total appearances are more than any other conference opponent. Since the tournament format began in 2013, Gonzaga has failed to make the WCC postseason just once (2015).
The Zags kick off their season Feb. 14-16 in Davis, Calif., where they will face UC Davis for the first time since 2015. They will then play three at Baylor Feb. 21-23 before their Patterson Baseball Complex opener Feb. 27.
