Gonzaga Rolls to 95-75 Win over San Francisco in Regular Season Finale

Zags earn two-seed and bye to the semifinals at conference tournament

SAN FRANCISCO – Gonzaga finished the regular season with a 95-75 victory over San Francisco in the Chase Center Saturday. The win earned the Zags the two-seed in the Credit Union One West Coast Conference Championships, and a bye to the tournament's semifinals.
 
The Bulldogs (23-8, 14-4 West Coast Conference) led for 37 minutes and had four double-digit scorers. Ben Gregg led GU with 23 points and eight rebounds. He made three shots from behind-the-arc and all four of his free-throws. Nolan Hickman added 17 points, and Graham Ike and Khalif Battle chipped in 15 and 14 points.
 
The nation's leader in assists, Ryan Nembhard, finished with 16 assists to two turnovers. The senior matched the program record set by Blake Stepp in 2002, and tied the WCC single record in a league game. He became one of 21 players in NCAA Div. 1 history with at least 300 assists in a single season. The senior sits at 311 entering postseason play.
 
Gonzaga entered the game as the country's leading team in assists, and it finished with 22 in the win. It was the Zags' 18th 20-assist output of the season.
 
The Bulldogs shot 58 percent from the field, including 11-of-24 from three-point range. GU was also 16-for-19 from the free-throw line.
 
Marcus Williams led San Francisco (23-8, 13-5 WCC) with 28 points. Tyrone Riley IV had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Malik Thomas scored 13 points. USF finished 46 percent from the field, and 3-of-18 from three.
 
Up next
Gonzaga will be the second seed in the conference tournament and open in the second semifinal on March 10 at 8:30 p.m. The tournament returns to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas March 6-11.
