STANFORD, Calif. – Wil Smith was the lone Bulldog in action this week for Gonzaga men's track, racing in the fastest heat of the 5000-meters at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Friday on Cobb Track.
Smith tucked behind the pacer Thomas Boyden (Stanford), pulling ahead after the 3000-meter mark after Boyden dropped out. By the end, Smith would place third but notch a five-second personal best time of 13:34.96, moving closer to James Mwaura's 13:30.02 and become just the second Zag under 13:35.
Among the NCAA West qualifying list, Smith sits comfortably within the Top 40 as his time will likely push him into the preliminary round in May.
