SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga women's track was ranked No. 1 in the nation in the 10,000-meters, the USTFCCCA released Tuesday in their weekly #EventSquad rankings. Athletes
Rosina Machu,
Logan Hofstee,
Jessica Frydenlund, and
Alexi Fogo hold the four-fastest season bests for the Bulldogs in the 10K.
USTFCCCA #EventSquad rankings places a rank order to a program's "squad" of athletes in a particular event, using the cumulative season-best qualifying marks from a team's top four ranked athletes on the national descending-order list. As with the national descending-order list for qualifying and seeding purposes, marks are subject to be converted due to track size and/or altitude. A team must have four or more athletes with a valid season-best mark to achieve a ranking in a particular event.
Last weekend at the Stanford Invitational, Machu broke the previous program 10K record, finishing in 32:33.18 and currently ranks seventh on the NCAA West Prelims qualifier list. Hofstee (33:17.80, #15 in the West) marked the new No. 3 on the 10K list, Frydenlund (33:27.21, #17 in the West) set the new No. 4, and Fogo (33:45.43, #28 in the West) set the new No. 5.
Jade Rypkema ran in the second-fastest 10,000m heat at Stanford, recording a time of 34:45.01 (#48 in the West) to enter the program ranks at No. 9, sitting as the fifth-fastest time for the 10K squad.
Among other rankings for Gonzaga, the Zag men are ranked 11th in the 10,000-meters and 27th in the 5000-meters, while the women also hold the 28th best 1,500-meter squad.
Currently, 11 Bulldogs are among qualifiers for the NCAA West Prelims.
