SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga women's soccer finished with a convincing 3–0 victory over UIC at Luger Field Thursday.
The Zags (2-1-0) dominated across the board, outshooting UIC 18–6 and firing 10 shots on target to the Flames' two. The Zags also claimed a 5–0 corner kick advantage and controlled 55 percent of possession. Sixty-three percent of GU's possession was on the attacking side of the field.
Bulldog freshman
Samantha Snorsky was credited with two assists in the victory. She connected with
Amelia Severn to open the scoring in the eighth minute. It was Severn's second goal of the young season.
Katelyn Rigg scored her second goal of the season in the 48
th minute.
Annie Boyden recorded the assist on Rigg's 11
th career goal. In the 80
th minute,
Shila Rasoul slid a pass to Snorsky who crossed it into the box, where
Kylie Jones headed in the finish.
Severn and Rigg led the offensive charge with a combined 10 shots, with seven on frame. Between the posts, Gonzaga's
Michaela McCollum was tested twice and responded with two saves, while UIC's goalkeepers combined for seven stops under pressure. Riley Collett led the Flames (1-3-1) with three shots.
It was the second-ever meeting between the programs, as GU grabbed a 3-0 road win in Chicago last season.
Gonzaga continues its five-match home stand to open the season, welcoming Washington (2-0-3) Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus, with live stats on GoZags.com.
