Phoenix, Arizona- The Zags fell on the road to the Grand Canyon Antelopes, bowing out in three sets to close three straight days of games.
While the Zags finished as the second place team at the Grand Canyon Invitational because of their two prior wins, they were not able to secure a victory against GCU tonight to finish the weekend.
Backed by a raucous crowd with over 2,000 attendees, the Lopes were led by a double-double performance from Anaelena Ramirez, who led the match in digs (13) and tied for the most kills in the match with 12. Kelly McAuley led the Zags with the same attacking success, also logging 12 kills. Four separate Zags contributed at least five digs, as the Bulldogs played solidly and forced the third set to extra points before eventually losing the game.
Gonzaga Volleyball will kick off their first home game on Thursday, September 4th at 2:30pm when they take on Cal State Bakersfield. The Zags will host two additional opponents in the following two days, with a neutral game taking place with free admission.
