Colfax, Wash- Gonzaga Men's Cross Country takes on a ranked Washington State team in a packed field at the Cougar Classic tomorrow.
Men's Cross Country makes the jump to 8,000 meters, a jump over the previous distance of 6,000 meters from the season opener Clash of the Inland Northwest.
The Zags have an opportunity to garner national attention when they take on a ranked opponent, with the host Washington State Cougars ranked 22nd in the USTFCCCA Poll. This meet will work as a key preview for the WCC and NCAA West regional Championships, as both programs are ranked in the top 10 regional rankings. The Zags are ranked 8th in the West region, while Washington State is ranked 5th. Another WCC rival, Portland (who will not be present at the Cougar Classic) is ranked 6th in the region as well.
The race will also feature seven preseason All-WCC selections, with Bryce Cerkowniak and Logan Law representing for the Zags opposite five selections for the Cougars.
Gonzaga women's cross country is not competing in the meet and will return to action on October 3rd when they run at the Lakefront Invitational in Chicago.
The Cougar Classic will take place at the Colfax Golf Course on Friday, September 12th, with women's 6k race taking place at 5:00pm and the men's 8k following at 5:45pm. Admission is free.
