Men’s Cross Country secures second, program bests at Cougar Classic

COLFAX, Wash.- Gonzaga Men's Cross Country put in a solid appearance in their first 8k run of the year, taking second at the Cougar Classic.

The Zags were led by Bryce Cerkowniak, who secured fourth in the meet with a time of 23:47. He was followed by Logan Law, who ran a 23:52.3 race. These marks both set a Gonzaga program record for the best time at the meet, breaking the 23:55 record previously set by James Mwaura. Both runners are now two of only three Zags to have ever broken 24 minutes at this meet.

Logan Schwartz and Mason Kissell rounded out the top ten, finishing in sixth and eighth respectively. The Zags finished in second place in the meet, coming in right on the heels of a nationally ranked Washington State team.

Before the meet only fourteen Zags had ever broken 24:30 at the Cougar Classic before the meet today. Seven Bulldogs broke that mark today, indicating a strong team performance and the start to a season that could see the Zags challenge their records.

Head Coach Pat Tyson was proud of the performance in the first 8k of the year, remarking that "there were a lot of good things, an we had a good run and it's still very early in the season as we plan for Gans Creek". The Zags will get back to action when they run at the Gans Creek Classic on September 26th.
