PULLMAN, Wash. – Gonzaga women's tennis turned in a strong showing today at the Washington State Cougar Classic, earning four singles victories highlighted by comeback performances and gritty three-set battles.
The pairing of Savannah Johnson and Karla Brown picked up Gonzaga's lone doubles win of the day, defeating their opponents 8–4. Brown then carried her momentum into singles, rallying for a 4–6, 6–4, 6–0 win to give the Zags a key point. Johnson battled hard but dropped her match 3–6, 6–7(2).
Ella Nielsen continued her strong weekend with one of the day's most dramatic wins. After dropping the first set 2–6, she fought through a second-set tiebreaker 7–6(4) and dominated the decider 6–0 to complete the comeback.
Madeleine MacNeille also found her rhythm, powering to a 7–5, 6–1 victory.
Rose Hayes added another straight-set win for Gonzaga, taking down her Portland opponent 7–5, 6–1.
The Bulldogs faced challenges in doubles play, dropping both remaining matches. Nielsen and MacNeille fell 8–3 to Montana, while Hayes and Brooke Bittner dropped their match 8–4 to Portland. Bittner battled through three sets before falling 6–4, 3–6, 2–6.
Overall, Gonzaga finished Day Two with four singles wins and one doubles victory, showing depth and fight across the lineup as the tournament heads into its final day.
