Spokane, Wash.- Gonzaga Volleyball fell in three sets to Montana State in the Martin Centre on Saturday afternoon.
Powered by 10 team aces and a .260 attack percentage, the Bobcats emerged triumphant in a close fought match. After requiring extra points to secure the first set Montana State was able to edge the final two sets. They were led by a gritty performance from their setters, with Teagan Jaynes tallying 15 assists and freshman backup setter Maggie Rhew serving up 12 more assists after being pressed into service after an injury.
The Zags were lead in both digs and assists by Nia Damuni, with 19 assists and 11 digs. Kate Herrick tallied a career high 19 assists as well as a balanced offense was enough for the Bulldogs. Sjakkie Donkers scored a game high 13 kills, and the Zags close their host invitational with two wins before they head back on the road for a final invitational.
Gonzaga will appear in the IU Indy Hampton Inn Invitational on Saturday, September 13th. They are the team traveling the furthest to appear in the competition. The Zags will play two games on the 13th, playing at both 8am Pacific Time and 4 pm Pacific Time. They will then play the Bellarmine Knights the next day, the first ever meeting between the two programs.
